Beginners

New to couponing?  That's great!  Here are a few tips to help get you started:
  1. Pick one store to start with:
    • It will be less confusing this way, trust me.  When I started couponing, I looked at all the deals for every store in my area and went to every store! This is very time consuming and you get get burnt out fast.  So in the beginning, pick one store and learn everything - the coupon policy, if they offer rewards, etc.
  2. Get coupons:
    • The most common way people get coupons is through newspaper inserts, but printable coupons are updated everyday and the same deals are often not available if you only get your coupons from newspapers.
  3. Learn to stack coupons:
    • Most stores allow "stacking" of coupons.  This means that you are allowed to use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item.  For example Target has store coupons will stack with manufacturer coupons, which can lead to some pretty awesome deals!
  4. Get organized:
    • There are many ways to get organized.  I prefer the binder method because it is simple and easy to use, but it is more time consuming when you are clipping coupons.  All you need is a binder, tabbed dividers, and trading card pages.  I've found that trading card pages work the best for organizing coupons because they hold 9 coupons per page and are pretty durable!  You can find trading card pages at Target and Hobby Lobby (I have yet to find a Michael's who has them in stock).
